I'm curious about why the top raiding guilds are disbanding now instead of before Sunwell was released.
Maybe they had been holding out to see what would happen?
Just sticking a post here to look at later.
SETI and the player count problem

Complacency kills.
From what I've seen and experienced, raid guilds lost a lot of people who got bored farming Black Temple and Hyjal. And although Sunwell's been called a T6.5 instance (which it is in terms of loot), it's more like tier 7 when it comes to difficulty. It starts at a difficulty way beyond anything in BT or Hyjal, and rapidly ramps up from there.
If you attempt that with people who still need a few drops from BT/Hyjal and expect the cakewalk that was everything after Kael'thas, you're in for a rude awakening. Combine that with a very limited recruiting pool on most servers, and you end up choosing one of the following:
a) Smash your head against the wall until WotLK
b) Farm Black Temple and Hyjal until WotLK and hope you'll equip and train people faster than you lose them
c) Quit.
