WOW went downhill from there...

I've heard that for many games...I don't remember exactly but it usually goes like this:

*Star Wars Galaxies went downhill after the combat revamp
*Everquest went downhill after the Planes of Knowledge

Everyone can predict what will happen in the future - predictions like opinions are free.

I predict, many many years from now, people will say after the introduction of Welfare Epics the World of Warcraft went downhill from there.

Making epics so easily available seems like a good idea, and while I do personally like an alternative to raiding at endgame, what carrots on sticks will that leave for us to chase after?

I'm not predicting gloom here, WOW has already lived a nice life and will continue to do so. The pushback of Warhammer seems to have knocked the only upcoming contender off the block before it even had a chance to compete.

Nah, I remember when they first changed the honor system to where you could buy items with honor, back before TBC. People had the same complaint, because people were buying the epic High Warlord pvp items. So this feels like a repeat of the 4-6 months before TBC. Probably when WotLK comes out, they'll have lvl 80 blue high warlord/field marshal items again, and season 5 lvl 80 epics for arena. Then after season 6 or 7 comes out, they'll give S5 to people, around 6 months before the next expansion.

I do have to admit though that the condition of lvl 70 pvp right now isn't much fun because everyone's just farming for said welfare epics atm. They're not really playing to win, just for as much honor per hour as they can get. And I dislike that mentality. =/

I agree the current situation is very similar to when the honor system was first revamped. The next expansion will probaly introduce blues on level with anything you can buy for honor points.

Pretty much confirmed by a Blue post:

"We did that for about 2 years, then The Burning Crusade came out, and we've been doing it again for about a year so far, seems it's about time for a change of pace and a real big update again.

Also "resetting" the gear helps even out the playing field which can especially be helpful for new characters (Ex. Deathknights) or people who want to get into raiding. Those who want to be on the bleeding edge will get back to it, but I don't think it hurts anything to do this. No items you get make you permanently great, you need to keep playing to maintain awesomeness.

The game moves forward."
